Donald Lippincott ( Donald Fithian "Don" Lippincott ; born November 16, 1893 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † January 9, 1962 there ) was an American sprinter .

Donald Lippincott 1912

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 he won two medals. Over 100 m he was third behind his compatriots Ralph Craig and Alvah Meyer , over 200 m second behind Craig and ahead of the British Willie Applegarth .

In 1913, a few days before the death of his coach Mike Murphy, he won the IC4A championship over 220 y in 21.2 seconds .

With a time of 10.6 seconds, which he achieved on July 6, 1912 in Stockholm, he was the first to enter the list of official world records over 100 m . Had this list been introduced two months earlier, the German Richard Rau , who a year earlier had run the 100 m twice in 10.6 seconds and once even in the - albeit unofficial - world record time of 10.5 seconds, would have come first Confessed.

Donald Lippincott started for the University of Pennsylvania . During the First World War he served in the Navy. He later worked as a security consultant for various companies.
