Chambourcin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chambourcin is a red wine variety . It is an interspecific new breed between the varieties Seyve Villard 12-417 and Chancellor. The crossing of the hybrid vine took place by the French Joannes Seyve from the breeder family Seyve Villard. The exact date of the crossing is unknown. However, the spread of the variety took place much later in 1963. Joannes Seyve did not leave any records of the crossing, so the ancestry cannot be determined with certainty. The name Chambourcin comes from a municipality called Bou gé- Cham balud ( Bougé-Chambalud ) in the Isère department . There Seyve owned a test field.

The late-ripening variety is characterized by strong growth and high yield. It shows good resistance to downy mildew and black rot of the vine ; the wine is dark, full-bodied and aromatic and is somewhat similar to Merlot . The variety, which is well suited for warm summer regions with a risk of winter frost, is mainly grown in the Rhone Valley in France, the USA (for example on the American east coast in the states of Arkansas , Michigan , New York , North Carolina with the Yadkin Valley AVA , Ohio and Virginia vineyards ), grown in the Australian Hunter Valley , Georgia , New Zealand (4 hectares , as of 2007) and in Ticino in Switzerland (2.48 hectares, as of 2007). Generally one expects an increase in the vineyards again. According to a decree of April 18, 2008, the grape variety is one of the officially approved grape varieties for commercial cultivation, since the genome of the plant contains parts of the noble grape Vitis vinifera . In 2007, the area under vines in France was 800 hectares.

The grape variety was used to develop the new Regent variety .
