Viticulture in North Carolina describes viticulture in the American state of North Carolina . Under American law, every state and county is by definition a protected designation of origin and need not be recognized as such by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives .

Viticulture has been practiced in North Carolina by European immigrants since the early 17th century. Since attempts with European noble grapes failed, sweet wines of the American grape variety Scuppernong were first produced here. Some companies still produce wines of this type today. Only since 2000 has the proportion of Vitis vinifera varieties predominated . In addition, there is a significant proportion of French hybrid grapes (e.g. Chambourcin , Chancellor , ...) and autochthonous descendants of the Vitis lambrusca variety .

North Carolina is currently the 10th largest American state in terms of both grape production and the amount of wine produced. In 2007, 55 wineries and 350 individual locations were registered in North Carolina.
