Charles Borah

Charles "Charley" Borah (born November 11, 1906 in Fairfield , Illinois , † November 4, 1980 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American athlete and Olympic champion .

Borah won the AAU championships over 100 yards in 1926 , over 220 yards in 1927 and over 200 meters in 1928. As a student at the University of Southern California , he won the IC4A championships over 100 and 220 yards in 1927 . He broke the world record set by Charlie Paddock over 100 yards twice, in 1926 and 1927.

With the IX. At the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam , he was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the 100-meter run . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he starts as the third runner and together with his teammates Frank Wykoff , James Quinn and Henry Russell won the team gold medal with a new world record time of 41.0 s, ahead of the teams from Germany (silver) and Great Britain (bronze).
