Sam Graddy ( Samuel Louis "Sam" Graddy III ; born February 10, 1964 in Gaffney , South Carolina ) is a former American sprinter and Olympic champion .

In 1983 he was third in the 100-meter run at the Pan American Games in Caracas and won the 4-by-100-meter relay . However, after Juan Núñez was convicted of doping and disqualified, Graddy won the silver medal in the 100-meter run.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he won the silver medal over 100 meters, behind his compatriot Carl Lewis (gold) and ahead of the Canadian Ben Johnson (bronze), as well as the team gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with his teammates Ron Brown , Calvin Smith and Carl Lewis, ahead of the teams from Jamaica (silver) and Canada (bronze). In 1984 Graddy also won the national 100-meter championship with 10.28 s.

After graduating from the University of Tennessee , he earned his living as a professional football player with the Denver Broncos in the 1987 and 1988 seasons. He then played with the Los Angeles Raiders from 1990 to 1992.
