Eddie Hart

Eddie Hart (actually Edward James Hart ; born April 24, 1949 in Martinez , California ) is a former American sprinter and Olympic champion .

In the run-up to the 1972 Olympic Games , there were three favorites for the 100-meter run : Valery Borsov from the Soviet Union and the two Americans Rey Robinson and Hart. The two Americans ran 9.9 seconds each in the US trials, setting the world record. All three favorites won their respective prelims. The Americans saw the first run in which Robinson had to compete in the ABC television studio in the Olympic Village because their coach Stan Wright did not know the schedule. When the Americans saw the live broadcast of the first intermediate run, they rushed into the stadium. Hart should have started in the second intermediate run, but he did not arrive in time. The third American, Robert Taylor , started in time for the third run. The final was won by Borsow sovereign before Taylor.

While Robinson’s entire Olympic career was over with his preliminary victory, Eddie Hart was allowed to compete in the 4 x 100 meter relay . With Larry Black , Robert Taylor, Gerald Tinker and Eddie Hart, the US relay won the gold medal ahead of the teams from the Soviet Union (silver) and from the Federal Republic of Germany (bronze).
