Nesta Carter (born November 10, 1985 ) is a Jamaican sprinter . He is world champion and Olympic champion with the relay.

Career

With a time of 10.11 s over 100 meters , run on June 23, 2007 in Kingston , Carter qualified for the World Championships in Osaka . There he was eliminated in the semi-finals of the individual competition, but won the silver medal with the Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay .

On July 22, 2008, he stayed in Stockholm with 9.98 s for the first time under ten seconds. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , he was only in the relay at the start. The victory and the gold medal were the Jamaican team to Michael Frater , Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell in January 2017 by the IOC stripped after starter for Carter in retests of doping with methylhexaneamine had been convicted.

His personal best over 100 meters is 9.78 s, recorded on August 29, 2010 in Rieti . On June 4, 2011, he ran 9.92 s in Eugene and secured third place there. At the Memorial Van Damme on September 16, he crossed the finish line after 9.89 s and was second behind Usain Bolt on the podium.

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu he reached the finals over 100 meters and was seventh with a time of 10.95 s. Together with Michael Frater , Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt he won the gold medal at these world championships in the 4 x 100 meter relay competition. The Jamaican relay team set a new world record with a time of 37.04 s.

At the World Indoor Championships in 2012 in Istanbul, he ran in the final over 60 meters with 6.54 seconds in second place. For the Olympic Games in London, he could not qualify at the Jamaican Trials . Over 100 meters he came in sixth place with 10.01 s, over 200 meters 20.45 s was only enough for fifth. Nevertheless, he was nominated for the Jamaican relay team. In London he won gold with Usain Bolt , Yohan Blake and Michael Frater and set a new world record with 36.84 seconds. He benefited from an injury to Asafa Powell , who was originally intended as a runner. On August 17th he came in second place behind Ryan Bailey with 10.06 seconds at the DN Galan in Stockholm. With his victory in Dubnica nad Váhom he was in good shape for the season finale with 10.01 seconds, and in the Weltklasse Zürich he also finished second with 9.95 seconds.

On June 21, 2013, he missed qualifying for the World Championships in Moscow in fourth place over 100 meters at the Jamaican Championships . Since the injured defending champion Yohan Blake could not use his wildcard, Bolt - who won the trials - received it as the winner of the Diamond League in 2012, with which Carter moved up and got the fourth Jamaican 100-meter starting place. In Birmingham he won on June 30th with 9.99 s. On July 13, 2013 he won in Madrid ahead of Rakieem Salaam with the second fastest time of the year: 9.87 s. Shortly afterwards, positive doping tests appeared on several Jamaican teammates. Carter was also suspected, which turned out to be a hoax after his agent Adrian Laidlaw denied it. At the world championships he won his first individual medal with bronze in 9.95 s and later for the second time after Daegu relay gold. At the first of the two Diamond League finals, in Zurich , he finished sixth with 10.01 s, and in Brussels he finished third in 9.94 s at the end of the season.

With the aim of winning a gold medal at the World Indoor Championships, Carter started the season in 2014 with 60-meter runs. At an open-air meeting in Jamaica he ran 6.52 s and at the prestigious Birmingham indoor competition he came second in the final with 6.53 s.
