Bernard Williams (born January 19, 1978 in Baltimore ) is an American athlete .

Life

Williams is a sprinter. His specialty is the 200 meters . However, he had his first international success on the 100-meter course when he won the bronze medal in 9.94 s at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton. Years later he moved up to silver because the original runner-up Tim Montgomery was disqualified for doping.

Otherwise Williams won his medals mainly with the US 4 x 100 meter relay . So also the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , as well as at the World Championships in 2001. The latter was later withdrawn from him because of the Tim Montgomery doping case .

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he was finally able to win an individual Olympic medal. He won silver over 200 meters.

On September 9, 2004, he tested positive for cannabis at a meeting in Seville .

Bernard Williams is often referred to as Hollywood Bernard because he is particularly noticeable on television broadcasts by playing with the cameras before a start. The extroverted Williams is therefore often invited to athletics meetings, even in times when his performances were not necessarily world-class.

Bernard Williams is 1.81 m tall and has a competition weight of 73 kg.
