Foy Draper
Foy Draper (born November 26, 1913 in Georgetown , Texas , † February 1, 1943 in Kasserine , Tunisia ) was an American athlete . With a height of 1.65 m, his competition weight was 54 kg.
Second at the 1935 NCAA championships behind Jesse Owens , he set his personal best of 10.3 seconds in the 100-meter run . In the same year he won the IC4A championship over 220 yards.
At the Olympic Games in 1936 , together with Jesse Owens, Ralph Metcalfe and Frank Wykoff, he won the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay race in the world record time of 39.8 s.
His plane crashed in 1943 during World War II while preparing to take part in the Battle of the Kasserin Pass in Tunisia. His body was never found.
