Richard Stebbins

Richard Stebbins ( Richard Vaughn "Dick" Stebbins ; born June 14, 1945 in Los Angeles ) is a former American sprinter and Olympic champion .

In 1964 he qualified over 200 meters as second in the US eliminations for the Tokyo Olympics , where he finished seventh. In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he and his teammates Paul Drayton , Gerry Ashworth and Bob Hayes won the gold medal in a world record time of 39.0 s.

The 1.80 m tall and 68 kg heavy athlete later tried a professional career in American football , but received no contract. Instead, he became a teacher at a middle school in Elkridge ( Maryland ).
