The Baltimore Sun is a daily newspaper published in Baltimore , Maryland , United States . It is considered liberal , tailored to the East Coast clientele in the Washington, DC belt
The Baltimore Sun has a circulation of around 133,000 copies every week and around 253,000 copies in the Sunday edition (as of 2018). It was founded on May 17, 1837 by the publisher Arunah Shepherdson Abell . The newspaper remained in the possession of the Abell family until 1910; it was followed by the tour of the Black family. In 1986 the Baltimore Sun was sold to the Times Mirror Company and in 2000 came with this to the media company tronc (formerly Tribune Company ) .
In the fifth season of the American television series The Wire , journalists from the Baltimore Sun are at the center of some of the storylines.
Award
The Baltimore Sun is a Pulitzer Prize winner . This prize was awarded to the newspaper in 1947 in the category service to the public .
