Dean Smith ( Finis Dean Smith ; born January 15, 1932 in Breckenridge , Texas ) is a retired American athlete. First he was a sprinter relay Olympic champion, then he was a football player . After the end of his sporting career, he worked as a stuntman .

Career

In 1952 he drove as US champion in the 100-meter run to the Olympic Games in Helsinki , where he was fourth in this discipline. In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he was the starting runner of the victorious US team, which also included Harrison Dillard , Lindy Remigino and Andy Stanfield .

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin , he served in the Army . After his service, Smith played American football for the Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers , but was not used in any regular season game .

He then started as a rodeo cowboy and worked as a stuntman with John Wayne in numerous westerns.

Dean Smith has been a member of the Stuntmen Hall of Fame since 1980 and was named All American Cowboy in 1997. In 1998 he received the Golden Boot Award .
