Morris Kirksey
Morris Marshall Kirksey (born September 13, 1895 in Waxahachie , Texas , † November 25, 1981 in Stanford , California ) was an American athlete and Olympic champion .
Kirksey was a student at Stanford University studying philosophy when he won over 100 yards at the American championships in 1921 , breaking the record set by Charles Paddock . He was one of four American athletes to win gold medals in two different Olympic sports.
At the VII Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 , he won the silver medal in the 100-meter run , behind the American Charles Paddock and ahead of the British Harry Edward . Six days later he won the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay race together with his teammates Charles Paddock, Jackson Scholz and Loren Murchison , ahead of the teams of France and Sweden . Towards the end of these Olympic Games he won his second gold medal - as a member of the American rugby union team , which beat France 8-0 in the final .
