Nickel Ashmeade (born April 7, 1990 ) is a Jamaican sprinter who was able to celebrate successes over both the 100 and 200 meter distance .

Career

Ashmeade won silver in the 100-meter run and bronze over the 200 meters at the 2007 Youth World Championships in Ostrava . A year later he was second over the 200 meters at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz .

2011

In June 2011, he set a new personal best over 100 meters at the National Training Center Sprint Series in Clermont with 9.96 seconds, making him the eleventh Jamaican to ever run the 100 meters under ten seconds. At the World Championships 2011 in Daegu he reached the final over 200 meters and came in fifth with a time of 20.29 s. At the Memorial Van Damme he set his new best with 19.91 s over 200 meters and came in third behind Blake and Dix .

2012

At the fourth Diamond League Meeting in 2012 in Eugene, he set up his new best performance in second behind Justin Gatlin with 9.93 s. In the Jamaican Trials he could not qualify for the 200-meter distance at the Olympics on July 1. After a strong cornering he could not keep his pace on the straight and finished fourth with 20.16 s. At the Herculis in Monaco on July 20, he won in 20.02 s ahead of Martina and Spearmon . On August 23, he was only third at the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne with 19.94 s, three days later he was able to improve and won in Birmingham with 20.12 s. At the season finale of the Diamond League over 200 meters in Zurich , he crossed the finish line in second place, winning the $ 40,000 overall ranking ahead of Usain Bolt . 2013

In 2013 he followed up on his good performance. At the two Diamond League meetings in Lausanne and Paris at the beginning of July, he was only fifth. In Lausanne he competed over 100 meters, in Paris over 200 meters. At the World Championships , he set a new personal best in the semifinals with 9.90 s and moved into the final as the fastest. There he was fifth with 9.98 s. In the 200 meter competition, he missed a medal by a hundredth of a second. With 20.05 seconds he crossed the finish line behind the American Curtis Mitchell . In February 2014, he made his first indoor start as a professional in Boston. He finished his only race in the indoor season in fifth in 6.62 seconds.
