Walter Dix (born January 31, 1986 in Coral Springs ) is an American sprinter .

In 2005 he set the US junior record in the 100 meter run with 10.06 seconds . At the NCAA championships in 2005 he won over 100 m, in 2006 indoors and outdoors over 200 m , in 2007 over 100 and 200 m and in 2008 over 200 m.

In 2007 he was third at the US championships over 100 m, in the eliminations (Trials) for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , he won the 200 m and came second in the 100 m. In Beijing he won the bronze medal over 100 m with a time of 9.91 s. Dix also took bronze over 200 m with 19.98 seconds. His personal best is 9.88 s, recorded on August 8, 2010 in Lucerne .

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Dix won the silver medal over 100 m. After an outstanding final sprint, he overtook Kim Collins , but had to admit defeat to Jamaican Yohan Blake with 10.08 seconds . He also took silver in the 200 m, this time behind Usain Bolt . At the first of the two season finals, Weltklasse Zürich , he crossed the finish line in third place with 10.04 s over 100 m, on September 16 he ran at the second, the Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, with a new personal best of 19.53 s in second place.

In 2012 he moved to California to train with John Smith . On April 22, 2012, Dix ran 9.85 s for the first time, but the time is not recognized as the best performance because of the high tailwind. At the US Trials for the Olympic Games in London , he injured himself in the 100 meter final and had to end his season prematurely afterwards.

It wasn't until June 1, 2013 that he made his comeback in Eugene with 20.16 seconds. At the US championships, he did not manage to qualify for the world championships in Moscow . On September 8, he ran under 10 seconds for the first time after his injury in his win in Rieti .

In 2014 he changed coach with Kevin Brown and moved to South Carolina . For the first time since 2011 he stayed injury-free over the winter season.
