Gaston (name)
Gaston is a French male given name and a family name .
Origin and meaning
The first name Gaston probably originated from a Germanic name, which in turn was derived from the element gasti meaning "the foreigner".
According to unproven information, it may also be the central French form of the northern French name Waast and Vaast ( Vedastus in Latin, so WEDASTU in Gallo-Roman), with the ending -on , former cas régime of the French men's names (see gars, garçon ). The first bearer of this original form was Vedast , Bishop of Arras in the 5th century.
The Spanish version of the name is Gastón , which is derived from French.
