Gastón Sauro (born February 23, 1990 in Rosario , Argentina ) is an Argentine soccer player who is under contract with the Major League Soccer franchise Columbus Crew .

Career

Sauro made his professional debut in the 2008/09 season with Boca Juniors , where he scored a goal in 15 league appearances from 2008 to 2012.

In July 2012, Sauro moved to FC Basel . He was first used there on July 17, 2012 in the first leg of the 2nd Champions League qualifying round against Flora Tallinn . He made his league debut in a 2-2 away draw against Grasshopper Club on July 28, 2012. He scored his first goal in the Swiss football championship on September 26, 2012 in the home game at St. Jakob-Park to make it 4-1 -Final stand against FC Sion .

At the end of the 2012/13 season , Sauro became Swiss champions with FC Basel and was in the final of the Swiss Cup against Grasshopper Club , which was lost on penalties . In the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League he advanced to the semi-finals with FC Basel, where he had to face the reigning UEFA Champions League winner Chelsea . FC Basel lost both the home and away game and were eliminated with an overall result of 2: 5. In a long season with a total of 76 games (36 in the Super League, 6 in the Cup, 20 in the Champions League and Europa League and 14 test games) Sauro had a total of 41 appearances, 16 of them in the Super League, 5 in the Cup and 10 appearances in the Champions and Europa League and 10 in friendly matches.
