Georgetown is the district capital and seat of the county seat of Williamson County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is centrally located in the county on Interstate 35 on the San Gabriel River in southeastern Texas and has a total area of 64.6 km 2 , of which 5.5 km 2 is water.
history
The place was founded in 1848 and named after George Washington Glasscock , who together with his partner Thomas B. Huling donated the land.

According to the 2000 census, 28,339 people lived here in 10,393 households and 7,711 families. The population density was 479.3 people per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 85.39% White, 3.39% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 8.31% other ethnic groups. About 1.83% were of mixed race and 18.07% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,393 households, 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.6% of these were married couples living together. 9.5% were single mothers and 25.8% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were single households and 9.3% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
23.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 11.4% 18 to 24, 26.3% 25 to 44, 21.3% 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 95.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 91.1 men.
The median income for a household in the 54,098 USD , and the median income for a family 63,338 USD. Males had a median income of $ 40,541 versus $ 27,082 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,287. 7.2% of the population and 4.4% of families are below the poverty line. 9.3% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 3.9% were 65 or older.

In May 2017, Dale Ross (Republican) was re-elected mayor with 70% of the vote. Georgetown is the largest city in the United States with 100% renewable energy. Mayor Ross justified this policy with economic sustainability considerations. Although he is in the same political party as President Donald Trump, he has 100% opposing views on it on climate and foreign policy.
education
The city is the center of the Georgetown Independent School District , an association of private schools for more than 10,000 students, consisting of Georgetown High School and East View High School as well as five middle and nine elementary schools. Founded in 1873 by protagonists of the Methodist Church , Southwestern University is the oldest university in Texas. The Liberal Arts College there offers 40 four-year undergraduate courses which are completed with a bachelor's degree. The university is recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Association of Schools of Music .
