National Association of Schools of Music

The National Association of Schools of Music ( NASM ) is an association of universities that serves as the national accreditation council for music courses in the United States . NASM was founded on October 20, 1924, and began issuing accreditations in 1939.

NASM currently has approximately 644 members and is responsible for both academic title universities and non-academic music schools.

In addition to its function as an accreditation council, NASM acts as a consultant and trainer for music schools. The NASM also conducts institutional research by compiling and analyzing statistics relating to the operation of music schools and faculties.
