The Musberger Eichberg is a nature reserve (NSG number 1.272) designated by ordinance of the Stuttgart regional council of October 9, 2007 in the area of the city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg .
The protection was necessary in order to preserve the historical cultural landscape in the southern and eastern parts of the Eichberg in its overall structure and ensemble including the unpaved corridors with their rainbows and seams in the area of the city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen. A unique, ecologically valuable and species-rich biotope complex with a small-scale alternation of poor grassland , extensively used orchards , hedges, rain areas, fringes, field trees and oak groves is to be preserved, developed and restored. In addition, the area is intended to represent a core area for the biotope network in the long term, which, through further restoration measures, serves both as a basic framework for the inner structure and to the outside to connect areas and elements. The exchange of species between the habitats should be promoted and interrelationships made possible. The repopulation and migration processes of wild plant and animal species and the historical cultural landscape are to be secured, maintained and developed in synthesis. The European, ecological network Natura 2000 is supported .
The Musberger Eichberg belongs to the natural area 104 - Schönbuch and Glemswald in the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .
