The area Neckar Wasen is a with Regulation of 23 March 1992 the Regional Council Stuttgart been instructed Nature Reserve (NSG number 1184) near the town Wendlingen and the community Köngen in Baden-Württemberg district of Esslingen in Germany .
Location and purpose of protection
The 13.3 hectare (ha) nature reserve is directly adjacent to the NSG Wernauer Baggerseen and extends it to the west. It belongs to the natural area 106 Filder in the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land and also to the FFH area 7321-341 Filder .
The main protection purpose is the maintenance of an ecological compensation area in the heavily polluted congestion area of the Neckar valley. It is a nationally important resting area for birds. Air purification and renewal as well as water retention and groundwater recharge are also important functions.
