The Schaichtal nature reserve is located on the border of the administrative districts of Tübingen and Stuttgart in the four districts of Tübingen , Reutlingen , Esslingen and Böblingen . It was expelled by ordinance on February 23, 1995 by the Tübingen regional council.

The Schaichtal nature reserve is located on the border of the Tübingen and Stuttgart administrative districts between the Betzenberg and Schaichberg in the area of ​​the municipalities of Waldenbuch ( Böblingen district ), Aichtal , Altenriet and Schlaitdorf ( Esslingen district ), Dettenhausen ( Tübingen district ) and Walddorfhäslach ( Reutlingen district ) . It belongs to the natural area Schönbuch and Glemswald in the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Bergland . It extends from Dettenhausen in the west to Neuenhaus in the east for about eight kilometers and includes the valley of the Schaich with a few blades .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the protection purpose is "the safeguarding and optimization of a typical and scenic stream valley of the Schönbuch, with its open, richly structured floodplain, which has been largely spared by structural measures to this day, which still has a small-scale alternation of meadows and fallow land with creeks accompanied by wooded areas , surrounded by forest slopes with spring streams and canyon forest fragments. Landscape character

The character of the protected area is determined by the Sheikh valley. The valley slopes are wooded. In the valley floor there are individual open wetlands, such as wet and humid meadows, sedge meadows and tall herbaceous meadows.

Flora and fauna

In the Schaichtal there are numerous plants worthy of protection, including the devil's bite ( Succisa pratensis ), the royal carnation ( Dianthus superbus ), the broad-leaved orchid ( Dactylorhiza majalis ), the orchid orchid ( Orchis militaris ), the globe flower ( Globularia elongata ), the fringed orchid ( Gentianella ciliata ), the orchid ( Orchis morio ), the burnt orchid ( Orchis ustulata ), the branchy grass lily ( Anthericum ramosum ) and the tufted carnation ( Dianthus armeria ). The FFH species green broom moss also occurs in the area

Among the animal species, the species bullhead , brook lamprey , yellow-bellied toad , bellied diaper snail , Spanish flag and dark blue-buttoned ant-blue are to be mentioned in particular . There are also eight amphibian species, ten dragonfly species (including the striped spring damsel ), 47 snail species, including 9 from the Red List, as well as 16 grasshopper species and 61 ground beetle species.

Contiguous protected areas

The nature reserve is part of the FFH area Schönbuch and the bird sanctuary Schönbuch . It is surrounded by four protected landscape areas.
