Neuweiler Viehweide is a nature reserve in the Baden-Württemberg municipality of Waldenbuch in the Böblingen district.
Characteristics
The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of January 3, 1984 and has a size of 13.5 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 1.118. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 164802 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
location
The hudewald-like area, one of the last relics of the old Schönbuch landscape , is located around two kilometers west of the center of Waldenbuch. It is completely enclosed by the Glemswald nature reserve, which is number 1.15.089 in the Böblingen district. The Neuweiler cattle pasture is located in the natural area 104- Schönbuch and Glemswald within the natural spatial main unit 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .
Protection purpose
According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of a heather forest-like character with the promotion of solitary oaks, possibly also in the youth stage, the preservation of a diverse and varied composition of tree species with as different ages as possible and the promotion of breeding biotopes for cave breeders.
The name Neuweiler Viehweide indicates that farmers from the small town of Neuweiler , about 3 km away, used to practice hutung here. After this forest grazing ceased, the area was mostly planted naturally with trees. On the initially gentle slope to the south of the Fäulbach floodplain, a tributary of the Aich, there are varied hardwood stands with many beeches. Added are hornbeams, field and sycamore maples, linden trees, service berries and Scots pine from a natural approach and a few younger spruces. A special feature in this loosened, light-rich mixed deciduous forest are old, solitary oaks with trunk circumferences from 4 meters to almost 6 meters.
