The area of Hacksberg and Steckental was designated as a nature reserve by decree on December 20, 1991 and has a total area of 161.9 hectares . The largest eastern part (100.0 ha) in terms of area is listed under the protected area number 1.182 at the Stuttgart Regional Council. The western part with 61.9 ha is listed under the protected area number 2.148 at the Karlsruhe regional council .
location
The nature reserve is located in the Obere Gäue natural area and is around 2500 meters south of Weil der Stadt . It is part of the FFH area No. 7319-341 Gäulandschaft on the Würm . To the north of the area is the landscape protection area No. 1.15.027 Heckengäu-Weil der Stadt and in the southeast it borders on the landscape protection area No. 1.15.088 Grafenau .
Protection purpose
According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is the preservation, development and care of the various dry biotopes with the numerous typical and endangered plants and animal species, the preservation of the heterogeneously structured areas as a habitat for characteristic and rare animal species, in particular for small mammals, birds, insects, spiders and harvestmen and securing the typical hedge-gau landscape.
Flora and fauna
The orchid species Swamp Stendelwurz and Fragrant Handelwurz thrive in the alternately arid areas of the area . The dry, vegetation-free areas of the protected area are habitats of specially protected field sand ground beetle and the wolf spider alopecosa trabalis and the ground spider Gnaphosa lucifuga . The semi-arid grasslands of the area are home to the golden eight , chessboard , kingfisher and six-spotted ram butterfly species . Large butterflies such as aurora butterfly , admiral and meadowsweet mother-of-pearl butterfly can be found on the sage and oat meadows . The bat species Bechstein's bat , great mouse- eared bat and noctule bat have been identified in the woodpecker caves of old trees .
