Heiligkreuz und Schloßberg is a nature reserve designated by the Karlsruhe Regional Council of December 29, 1992 with the number 2.159.

location

The nature reserve is located in the Obere Gäue natural area . It is located immediately west of the city of Nagold and includes the city's Schloßberg, although the Hohennagold castle ruins are not part of the protected area. The nature reserve is part of FFH area No. 7418-341 Nagolder Heckengäu .

Protection purpose

According to the ordinance, the protection purpose (extract) is: The preservation, development and care of the wooded area of ​​the Schloßberg as well as the open land areas of the area with the diverse types of dry areas as a habitat for typical, specialized animal and plant species. In addition, native trees should be preserved for as long as possible. Particularly in the Schonwald, the front part of the Schloßbergwald, a permanent preservation of the near-natural hardwood stock or its restoration with a small proportion of coniferous wood (less than ten percent) is to be aimed for. The same applies to the conservation and promotion of extensive open land areas in the vicinity of the forest.

Flora and fauna

The following orchid species, among others, settle in the area's sparse beech forest : bird's nest root , broad-leaved stendellum , red and white forest bird . The rare blue-red stone seed also settles here. In the forest area, the oriole can be found as a cave-breeder that lives in old wood .
