The Zavelsteiner Krokuswiesen are a nature reserve in the area of the city of Bad Teinach-Zavelstein, which was designated by the Karlsruhe Regional Council by ordinance of October 29, 1979 .

location

The nature reserve Zavelsteiner Krokuswiesen is located north of Zavelstein in the Black Forest-Randplatten natural area and includes almost all of the open land areas of the Zavelstein district. Geologically it lies in the layers of the upper Buntsandstein .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the protection purpose is "the preservation and promotion of the well-known rich crocus stocks (Crocus napolitanus) and the preservation of the natural and scenic meadow landscape around the town of Zavelstein."

Landscape character

The meadows border on the edge of the forest in the north and the town of Zavelstein in the south. There are individual orchards and arable land in the area.

Flora and fauna

The crocus is a symbol of the town of Zavelstein and occurs synanthropically in large stocks on the meadows around Zavelstein. The species was originally referred to as Crocus napolitanus . Recent genetic studies have shown that it is probably the overlooked crocus ( Crocus neglectus ).
