The Kaltenbronn nature and forest reserve is located in the high altitude area of ​​the northern Black Forest between the Murg and Enz valleys and is part of the Baden-Württemberg cities of Gernsbach ( Rastatt district ) and Bad Wildbad ( Calw district ). It consists of two approximately three kilometers apart protected areas with raised bogs and bog pools , as well as connecting them Bann and already forests in Gernsbacher district Kaltenbronn .

Location and description

The protected area is located in the natural space Grindenschwarzwald and Enzhöhen and extends northeast and southwest of the country road L 76 b, of the cone of Bach and Kaltenbronn. In the north-eastern sub-area there is the Wildseemoor, the largest raised bog in the Black Forest with the Wildsee and the Hornsee. In the south-western sub-area, on the plateau of the Hohloh , are u. a. the Große Hohlohsee , the Kleine Hohlohsee and the Breitlohsee.

The altitude ranges from 680 m above sea level. NN in the Brotenautal up to 989  m above sea level. NHN am Hohloh.

For Bad Wildbad and Gernsbach, a 394.6 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number 2.222 since December 22, 2000 . The two sub-areas were previously protected as individual nature reserves - "Hohloh-See bei Kaltenbronn" and "Wildseemoor bei Wildbad ‑ Kaltenbronn". In addition to the projected nature surfaces forest reserve comprises the spell forests "Wildseemoor" with about 290 ha and "Altlochkar redwater" with about 105 ha, as well as already forests ha with a surface area of 1,356. Exist between the protected areas and the Bann or Schonwald Overlap. The areas that are not part of the nature reserves also belong to the large surrounding landscape protection areas of the Großes and Kleines Enztal with side valleys in the district of Calw and the Mittleres Murgtal in the district of Rastatt.

A 5760 hectare area around the Kaltenbronn nature and forest protection area was part of the search area for the Black Forest National Park , which was established in 2014, but was ultimately not taken into account.
