Kaltenbronn is located in the largest contiguous forest area in Baden-Württemberg, which extends to the west and east of the Murg Valley. The district is the only one of the Baden - Eberstein districts around Gernsbach that is not in the Murgtal, but to the east of it in the catchment area of the Enz. From the village of Kaltenbronn down the valley there are only old Württemberg villages (the first is Sprollenhaus ).

In the vicinity of the village, on the summit plateau of the Hohloh, there is an observation tower that was built in 1897 and later increased . The tower is called the Hohlohturm or Kaiser Wilhelm Tower and is located just below the highest point at 984 m.

history

Originally, the Kaltenbronn area was not oriented towards the Murgtal. The part to the south of the Hohloh was developed from Simmersfeld and Altensteig, the northern part from Wildbad. However, the Kaltenbronn district already appeared in the High Middle Ages as part of the Rotenfels dominion in the Murg Valley . From 1387 to 1676 this was jointly owned ( condominium ) of the margraviate of Baden (from 1536 Baden-Baden line ) and the county of Eberstein , after which it was completely owned by the Baden-Baden line, which in 1771 with the Baden-Durlach line again was reunited to form the margraviate of Baden. Until 1872, Kaltenbronn was part of the Gernsbach office in Baden, since then it has been in the office or district of Rastatt .

The wide and lonely forest area is the core area of the red deer population in the northern Black Forest and has therefore been a popular hunting area for the high nobility for centuries. In 1894, 1895, 1897 and 1899 Kaiser Wilhelm II came to Kaltenbronn to hunt capercaillie . From 1954 the area was the representative state hunt of the state of Baden-Württemberg. This was administered by the Kaltenbronn Forestry Office , whose directors included Chief Forester Walter Frevert (from 1953 to 1962). The traditional forestry office was dissolved in 1998 as part of a forest management reform of the state government under Prime Minister Erwin Teufel . A hunting lodge in Baden was built in 1740 instead of a wood grouse hut . The spa hotel emerged from this hunting lodge. In 1869/70 a new hunting lodge (hunting lodge) was built under Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden, which today also belongs to the hotel business.
