Reichental

Reichental is a district of Gernsbach in the Rastatt district , Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The Black Forest village is located below the 988 m high Hohloh in the valley of the Reichenbach, a tributary of the Murg . The state road 76b that crosses the village leads from Gernsbach-Hilpertsau, after a very steep and winding ascent from the Reichental exit, via Kaltenbronn into the Enztal to Enzklösterle and Bad Wildbad .

In addition to the surrounding forests, the landscape is characterized by terraced meadows and fields on the slopes around the village as well as steeply rising meadow valleys. A special feature of cultural history and only to be found in the entire Black Forest in the area of the central Murgtal in the area from Gernsbach to Forbach are the so-called "Heuhüttentäler", which is also typical for Reichental. Due to the cramped valley location, the hay for winter feeding had to be stored on the meadows higher up. These huts were mentioned for the first time in a visit report from 1683. According to tradition, Tyrolean woodcutters brought with them the construction method, which is otherwise only found in the Alpine region, when they settled in the Murg Valley , especially after the heavy population losses in the Thirty Years War .

history

Reichental was first mentioned in a document in 1339/40. In the past, the main livelihood of the village was the large forest areas. A fire destroyed most of the houses and the grinding mill in the village on Palm Sunday 1622. Reichental was only able to recover from this in the course of the 18th century. In 1897 the construction of the St. Mauritius Church began, which was completed in 1898 and consecrated in 1900 by Friedrich Justus Knecht .

On January 1, 1975, Reichental was incorporated into Gernsbach. In July 2015 the district celebrated its 675th anniversary .

politics

The Reichental local council is an independent body alongside the local council. He has the right to make suggestions in all matters relating to the Reichental district. The chairman of the committee is the mayor, Guido Wieland, BvR + SPD.

The forest museum has been set up in the former village sawmill and provides information about the history of the forest and its management.

Due to its picturesque location, the village architecture with many half-timbered houses and the proximity to the Baden-Baden production site, it is a filming location for television series and films such as Die Fallers and Die Indian Ärztin (1994–1996, with Rosel Zech ).
