Obertsrot is a district of Gernsbach in the Rastatt district in Baden-Württemberg .

The suburb is located south of Gernsbach in the Murg valley . The main settlement area is on the left of the Murg. The part to the right of the Murg is called Obertsrot Siedlung and in the north it seamlessly connects to Schänen - another district of Gernsbach.

history

Obertsrot was first mentioned in a document from 1377, which is kept in the General State Archives in Karlsruhe . On April 1, 1970 Obertsrot merged with Hilpertsau to form Obertsrot, which was incorporated into the town of Gernsbach on July 1, 1974 .

Myths and legends

There are some legends and legends about the place:

  • The Köhlerplatz : Near the Lindel you will find a free space in the middle of the forest. Here is the Kohlenmeiler a charcoal burner from Obertsrot. The old Köhler remained without a successor after his death and so only the name Köhlerplatz reminds of a long-abandoned profession.

politics

Local council

In addition to the local council, the Obertsrot local council is an independent body for matters in Obertsrot and Hilpertsau . The chairman of this body is the mayor Walter Schmeiser of the Free Citizens' Association of Gernsbach .

The formerly independent municipality of Obertsrot led silver between three (1: 2) blue inseminated red roses, two diagonally crossed blue raftsman hooks with outwardly turned tips, the whole thing entwined with a knotted blue rope.

Buildings

There are some interesting buildings in Obertsrot:

  • Eberstein Castle , since 1272 - the former seat of the count. Today it houses a gourmet restaurant, an excursion restaurant and a 4-star hotel.
  • Herz-Jesu-Kirche , built 1912–1915 as a neo-Romanesque basilica, historical paintings and pieces of equipment were removed from 1970–1972
  • St. Erhard Chapel , built in 1752, predecessor of the Sacred Heart Church, profaned after its inauguration

Regular events

There are a number of customs in Obertsrot:

  • The pinion time : After Martini on November 11th, all fruit on the trees, as well as the field crops, were released for pinching , which meant that everyone was allowed to harvest the fruit that was still hanging on the trees and the field crops, as far as the property was not was fenced. The federal highway 462 and the route of the Murgtalbahn , which is integrated into the network of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn and the tariff of the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund , run alongside the town .

Established businesses

Several factories that emerged from the wood processing industry are located in Obertsrot. Mayr-Melnhof Karton’s Gernsbach plant and Baden Board’s Baden Karton plant produce cardboard packaging . Casimir Kast Verpackung und Display GmbH manufactures packaging and displays from cardboard and corrugated cardboard. Röchling Automotive KG Werk Gernsbach-Obertsrot is a plastics processing company in the automotive supply industry.
