The organ rock is a natural monument (individual structure) and a geotope in the area of the Baden-Württemberg community of Gernsbach in the Rastatt district.
Characteristics
The natural monument was designated by ordinance of November 14, 1939.
Location and description
The organ rock north-east above the Reichental district of Gernsbach forms a striking rock group of Forbach granite , over 40 meters high and 80 meters wide , a gray-pink colored two-mica granite with a grainy, partially porphyry structure. As a result of the weathering that followed the vertical crevices, several rock towers were carved out in the organ rock, which resemble giant organ pipes. The very compact rocks also show significant wool sack weathering .
The organ rock is also listed as a geotope.
