The Rottlichwald is about 80 hectares large deciduous forest between Karlsruhe and Rastatt ( Baden-Württemberg ).

location

The forest is located between the Durmersheim district of Würmersheim and the municipality of Au am Rhein at about 110 m above sea level. NN . The area is bounded in the north by the Gießengraben , which is also called Rottlichgraben in the Auer region . In the west, the Tieflachgraben forms the border of the forest.

Another forest area, which is part of the Rottlichwald, but is not part of the nature reserve, is located between Gießengraben and a Würmersheim industrial area. This area is bounded in the south by county road 3721 and makes up about a quarter to a third of the total forest area.

natural reserve

The forest was declared a nature reserve on July 11, 1939 by ordinance of the Baden Ministry of Culture and Education . Today the area has the protected area number 2,029 and a size of 13.0 hectares.

To the east, the Rheinniederung nature reserve between Au am Rhein, Durmersheim and Rheinstetten , which is partly also in the Karlsruhe district, borders the Rottlichwald with a size of 261.6 hectares. Adjacent to the west is the low-level basin and Eichenlach with a size of 8.7 hectares.

Auer waterworks

At the edge of the forest, towards the northwest, is the Auer waterworks, which extracts drinking water from groundwater. This means that parts of the forest are also a water protection area .
