Eyach- und Rotenbachtal is a nature reserve designated by the Karlsruhe Regional Council of December 18, 2002 with the number 2.224. The 2002 ordinance repealed ordinances dating back to 1940.

location

The nature reserve is located in the natural areas of Grindenschwarzwald and Enzhöhen and Schwarzwald-Randplatten . 94% of the area is part of the FFH area No. 7217-341 Eyach above Neuenbürg and 4% of the area is part of the bird sanctuary No. 7415-441 Northern Black Forest . The nature reserve consists of the sub-areas Eyachtal and Rotenbachtal . The Eyachtal area lies between Dobel in the north and Bad Wildbad in the south and includes the Eyach floodplain from the source streams to the confluence with the Enz . The Rotenbachtal area is located southeast of Straubenhardt and includes the Rotenbach floodplain from the Herzogswiesen to the confluence with the Enz.

Protection purpose

According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is conservation, promotion and development

  • the species-rich and site-appropriate plant communities of the meadows and forests with their endangered plant and animal species, determined by different degrees of moisture;
  • the rare and species-rich peatland communities with their typical plant and animal species;
  • the typical watercourses and springs as habitats for threatened animals and plants;
  • the cultural landscape characterized by forest, permanent grassland and water;
  • a largely undeveloped Black Forest valley that is worth preserving because of its scenic beauty.

Flora and fauna

The most endangered plant species in the lean lawn in front of the reserve: Greenish butterfly orchid , Male orchid , spotted orchid , Real Moonwort , Maiden Pink , Geöhrtes hawkweed and polygala serpyllifolia . Forest lice herb , narrow-leaved cottongrass , broad-leaved orchid , flea sedge , brown sedge and round-leaved sundew grow in the Kleinseggenrieden and wet meadows . The Eyach provides habitat for the endangered brook lamprey .
