The main protection purpose is the safeguarding and preservation of the diverse wet and wet meadows as well as the extensively used poor meadow areas in the source area of the Pfinz with their floristic biodiversity, as well as the preservation and promotion of the diversity of rare and endangered animal and plant species - especially birds and grasshoppers and orchids.
The habitats of the wet meadows and wet meadows are still - despite being under protection - threatened in their continued existence by water grading, drainage, lowering of the groundwater level and the like.
history
Today's vegetation developed due to a long cultural use in grassland management. The protected area was designated on September 28, 1998 with an area of about 50 hectares. It consists of a large meadow landscape of wet, wet and poor meadows in the source area of the Pfinz and has a rich orchid population.
geology
The nature reserve is part of an undulating plateau with a thick loess clay cover. The base plate is made from middle and upper red sandstone.
Flora and fauna
In addition to the distinctive wet and wet meadows, the protected area also consists of dry, rough meadows. Among the 16 from the categories of endangered animals and plants in need of care in Baden-Württemberg there are also early-blooming domestic orchids such as a few specimens of the orchid (Orchis morio) and a larger population of the genus of the orchid (Dactylorhiza) .
The locust species that occur include white-rimmed grasshoppers and marsh grasshoppers , which are classified as "endangered" according to the Baden-Württemberg Red List. The former is rarer only in southern Germany. Among the endangered birds occurring here belongs backed Shrike .
