Erlich is a nature reserve in the natural area Northern Upper Rhine valley in Baden-Wuerttemberg .

geography

The greater part of the protected area in the district of Karlsruhe is located in the Rußheim district belonging to the municipality of Dettenheim, around a quarter is located in the Neudorf district of the municipality of Graben-Neudorf, a small part north of the B 35 belongs to the district of Huttenheim of the city of Philippsburg.

description

The area was only designated as a nature reserve by ordinance on March 27, 2003 by the Karlsruhe Regional Council and has an area of ​​280 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 2.225 and is classified in IUCN Category IV as a biotope and species protection area. The CDDA code is 318368 and also corresponds to the WDPA ID .

The main protection purpose of the nature reserve is the preservation, maintenance and promotion of floristic and faunistic rich areas close to the groundwater within the former meandering zone of the Rhine. The special diversity of adjacent and interlocking biotope structures and plant communities shaped by the influence of water make the area indispensable for supra-regionally significant occurrences of rare animal and plant species.

Flora and fauna

The here preserved, characterized by high groundwater levels habitats with species-rich fen sites, lean wet and economic fields, reed beds, wet wastelands and alder woods were a refuge nationally critically endangered animal and plant species, in addition to various sedges, dragonflies, bog frog and newt were Bluethroat and Marsh Orchid found here.
