The Gewann France-Wiesental nature reserve is located in the Baden-Württemberg town of Waghäusel .

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance of the Karlsruhe Regional Council of September 9, 1988 and has a size of 57.0 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 2.111. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 163238 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

location

The protected area consists of four sub-areas and is located on the western edge of the Wiesental district of the city of Waghäusel on the left and right of the B 36 . The protected areas are located in the natural area 223- Hardtebenen , within the natural spatial main unit 22- Northern Upper Rhine Lowland .

In the west, the NSG borders on the 1,481 hectare nature reserve Saalbachniederung . It is also completely in the 4,955 hectare FFH area No. 6717-341 Lußhardt between Reilingen and Karlsdorf .

Protection purpose

The character of the area is determined by patchy grassy sand areas on mostly gravelly ground. In midsummer the areas dry out profoundly. The purpose of protection is the preservation and design of a refuge for the flora and fauna and flora and fauna created by the former gravel and sand mining on the Hardtwald ridge of the lower terrace of the Rhine Graben and animal and plant sites that have arisen from fallow land. In addition, the main protective purpose is the maintenance and design of a high-quality natural history-pedagogical teaching and study area for carrying out scientific studies.
