description

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance on March 9, 1942 by the Baden Ministry of Culture and Education and has an area of almost 12 hectares. At the time when this remnant of a largely closed old Rhine loop with a well-developed pond rose society, sea can , reed beds and sedge beds was placed under protection , in addition to a conspicuously species-rich world of small animals, the suitability as a breeding site for numerous marsh and water birds was important. So were bittern and little bittern mentioned by name. The former has long since disappeared as a breeding bird - as in the entire state of Baden-Württemberg.
