The Weissacher Tal nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the city of Knittlingen in Baden-Württemberg .

Characteristics

The protected area was created on February 18, 1985 by ordinance of the Karlsruhe Regional Council with the protected area number 2231. This ordinance was published in the Law Gazette for Baden-Württemberg on March 29, 1985 and then came into force. The NSG's CDDA code is 166230 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

location

The nature reserve lies east of Knittlingen and extends in the valley of the Weißach from the flood retention basin Weissacher Tal to the outskirts of Freudenstein-Hohenklingen . It belongs entirely to FFH area No. 7018-341 Stromberg . The protected area lies in the natural areas 124- Strom- and Heuchelberg and 125- Kraichgau within the natural spatial main unit 12- Neckar- and Tauber-Gäuplatten .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the protection purpose is to maintain the floodplain of the Weissacher Valley between Knittlingen and Freudenstein on the edge of the Stromberg with the following characteristics:

  • Alluvial meadows and residual moor areas of the Kraichgau region, which after settlement are among the rare types of landscape;
  • natural equipment with wet meadows, sedge and reed beds as well as woody formations in the brook bank area in a historical cultural landscape;
  • Wetland with transition zones to the dry slope areas as a habitat for a species-rich fauna and flora, especially as a breeding and resting biotope for a large number of partially threatened bird species.
