Natural structure

In the individual sheets 1: 200,000 Karlsruhe (1952) and Stuttgart (1967) of the geographic survey of the Federal Institute for Regional Studies , Stromberg and Heuchelberg were subdivided as follows:

  • 124 Stromberg and Heuchelberg

geology

The area is characterized by the two mountain ranges Stromberg and Heuchelberg. It is a Keuper island in a loess setting , created by reversing the relief .

The Stromberg is a wooded ridge (400–470 m) made of Keuper marl and parlor sandstone. The dividing valleys extend into the Gipskeuper. They are very climatically protected. Their mixed soils in the lower layers are used for arable and fruit growing and partly as vineyards. On the southwestern edge of the Stromberg, the vines rise particularly high on the colorful marls.

Heuchelberg and Eppinger Hardt are plateaus of the reed sandstone slab (300-330 m), which are divided into two long, narrow trains by the upper Leintal and drop off steeply. The Eppinger Hardt is almost completely forested. On the Heuchelberg there is arable land with the cultivation of grain and potatoes. The north and west slopes are covered with forest and on the lower edges also vines. The Zaber separates Stromberg and Heuchelberg, where Zaberfeld is the only larger municipality .
