From 1807 to 1810 it belonged to the Oberamt Güglingen , from 1810 to 1938 to the Oberamt Brackenheim , then after its dissolution to the district of Heilbronn . In 1939 there were 830 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 926.

Ochsenburg, first mentioned in a document in 1231, was built as a settlement next to a medieval castle and had town charter until 1807 . After the castle was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century, the place name was briefly changed to Ochsenberg. The name change was reversed at the request of the municipality.
Leonbronn was first mentioned in 1289 as "Lincbrunnen". In 1971, together with Ochsenburg, it formed the new municipality of Burgbronn, which was already incorporated into Zaberfeld in 1975.
20th and 21st centuries
Since 1993, extensive redesign and renovation measures have taken place in the center of Zaberfeld, which went hand in hand with the closure of the Zabergäubahn, which has operated since 1901 and crossed the village, in 1995. Since 1993, the new town center has been the Löweneck , located below the church and castle, with public facilities, shops and apartments. badges and flags
The blazon of the Zaberfeld coat of arms reads: A golden pinnacle tower (castle) with flank walls on both sides rises in blue from the lower edge, topped with a sinking seven-pointed red star on two-tier blue rock . The flag of the municipality is yellow-blue.
The original coat of arms of Zaberfeld is the talking coat of arms of the von Sternenfels family, who owned the place as a Württemberg fief until 1749. Its blazon reads: In red on a three-tier wall-like golden rock, a seven-pointed golden star. The colors deviate from the family coat of arms for the purpose of differentiation and go back to a proposal by the Württemberg archives department in 1938. This coat of arms and the yellow-red flag colors were awarded to the community on February 22nd, 1963 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior.
After the union with Michelbach am Heuchelberg on July 1, 1970, Zaberfeld received a new coat of arms, which combined the rock and the star from the old Zaberfeld coat of arms with two silver moons from the coat of arms of Michelbach. The blazon of the new coat of arms reads: In red on a two-tiered, wall-like golden rock, a sinking seven-pointed golden star, above each a turned away silver moon. The flag colors remained yellow and red.
Today's Zaberfeld districts of Leonbronn and Ochsenburg formed the municipality of Burgbronn from January 1, 1971 to January 1, 1975. This had a coat of arms with the following blazon: In blue a golden pinnacle tower (castle) growing from the lower edge, provided with flank walls on both sides, covered with an upward-pointing green linden leaf. The Burgbronn flag colors were yellow and blue.
After the unification of Zaberfeld with Burgbronn to form the new (third) municipality of Zaberfeld, the municipality was given its current coat of arms by the district office of the district of Heilbronn on August 15, 1977, together with the flag colors yellow-blue, which symbolizes the place name Burgbronn from the Burgbronn Coat of arms combined with the coat of arms symbol of the Lords of Sternenfels, who had fiefdoms in all Zaberfeld districts.

Buildings
- The Protestant parish church of Saint Mauritius in Zaberfeld dates back to a building from the 13th century. The east-facing choir was added in 1505 by master builder Hans Wunderer .
- The castle in Zaberfeld was built as a Renaissance building from 1587 to 1619 with a curved north gable, received a baroque portal on the east side in 1712 and temporarily served as a parsonage before it was converted into a residential building in 2000. The historic town hall is located between the castle and the church.
- On the main street of Zaberfeld, the sculpture Am Rande in the middle by the sculptor Darko Gol made of Corten steel with a stainless steel disc has been located since 2005 . The four upper points symbolize the four districts of Zaberfeld, the three lower corners the three neighboring districts. Further sculptures of Gol who lives in Zaberfeld are set up at the exit towards Leonbronn and on the Ehmetsklinge . The Bacchus Fountain by Güglingen's sculptor Ursula Stock from 1993 is located in Löweneck , while the figure group Neighbor with two children by the Winnend sculptor Martin Kirstein can be seen at the town hall .

A popular excursion destination is the Zaber reservoir Ehmetsklinge , built for flood protection purposes , completed in 1969 and expanded in 2000/2001 , which is used as a bathing lake in summer . Another bathing lake is the Katzenbachsee , which is actually already on the Pfaffenhofen district (or on the district of Weiler an der Zaber ), but is included in Zaberfeld.

The line was closed in 1986 for passenger traffic and 1995 for freight traffic. Plans to reactivate the line as part of the Heilbronn light rail network by 2011 have not been pursued since 2006 due to a lack of financial resources.
