Kirchheim am Neckar is a municipality in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the Stuttgart region and the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart .

Geographical location
Kirchheim am Neckar is mainly located on the return of a former left loop of the Neckar , through which the Mühlbach runs to the river today , on its western bank. Heilbronn is about 12 km as the crow flies in the north-northeast, the district town of Ludwigsburg in the south about 17 km.
Neighboring communities
The neighboring municipalities are in turn the city of Brackenheim in the north-west, the city of Lauffen am Neckar in the north and north-east and also in the north-east the community of Neckarwestheim , which all belong to the neighboring district of Heilbronn . history
Kirchheim am Neckar was first mentioned in 1003 in a document from King Heinrich II . Kirchheim had the status of an imperial village whose citizens were not serfs and did not have to do any labor . With the increasing decline of imperial power, the Kirchheimers feared the covetousness of the neighboring nobility and voluntarily placed themselves under the protection of the Counts of Württemberg around 1400 . In 1477, Count Eberhard V. confirmed Kirchheim's rights in a letter of freedom against payment of an annual tax. In 1683 the village received market rights. Until 1803 Kirchheim was subordinate to the Brackenheim office. After the establishment of the Kingdom of Württemberg , the place came to the Oberamt Besigheim in 1808 . In 1938, during the regional reform of Württemberg during the Nazi era , Kirchheim was assigned to the Ludwigsburg district . In 1945 the place became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.
Religions
Since the Reformation was introduced in the 16th century , Kirchheim has been predominantly Protestant. In addition to the Evangelical Mauritius Church, there is now also a Roman Catholic church in the village, the Marienkirche .
