history
Local history
The lower Murrtal, and thus also the area of the municipality of Murr, has been inhabited for thousands of years. The first archaeological finds date from the Neolithic Age and go back to Roman times. A Roman consecration stone testifies to the "villagers on the Murr" for the first time around 200 AD. Today's place goes back to an Alemannic settlement and was first mentioned in a document in 972. In the 13th century Murr was the seat of an episcopal Speyer regional chapter and came to Württemberg in 1302 .
Murr, which belonged to the Marbach office from the 15th century, was the seat of the Hardt Court, which last met in 1839, alongside Marbach and Steinheim. From 1517 to 1871, logs were rafted from the Swabian-Franconian Forest on the Murr to the former raft bridge, where there was a large storage area.
When the new administrative structure was implemented in the Kingdom of Württemberg , which was founded in 1806 , Murr remained assigned to the Oberamt Marbach .
Until the 20th century, Murr was an agricultural place with a street village character on the old overland road from Ludwigsburg through the Bottwartal to Heilbronn.
The administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg led to membership in the Ludwigsburg district in 1938 . Since Murr had become part of the American occupation zone after the Second World War , the place had belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden since 1945 , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.
Religions
Since the Reformation was introduced in Württemberg, Murr has also been influenced by Protestants. There is still a Protestant congregation in the village today , while the Catholics have to go to Steinheim an der Murr to attend church services .

Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture and viticulture were the main sources of income until the beginning of the 20th century. The sites belong to the large Schalkstein site in the Württemberg lowlands of the Württemberg wine-growing region . Today only a few farmers cultivate around 400 ha of land. However, due to the proximity to the large sales markets of the central Neckar region, the nursery has gained a certain importance.
In the 1950s, there were only a few handicraft and industrial companies offering work on site, but their number has increased significantly. Today almost all sectors are represented in an industrial area of around 30 hectares near the motorway: from prefabricated house construction to mechanical engineering; There are around 2000 jobs in Murr.
