history

overview

Shoe-shaped ceramic vessels from women's grave No. 140 in the Franconian-Alamannic burial ground (around 539–555 AD)

Even before the Romans, Celts and Teutons, people from the Stone Age settled in the fertile Pleidelsheim depression. The place itself goes back to a Franconian-Alemannic foundation of the 6./7. Century back. It is named after a certain Blidolf, whose homestead was in what is now the municipality (in the area of today's Mundelsheimer Strasse). In old chronicles and maps the place name is therefore mostly "Blidolvsheim" (exactly: 972 Blidoluesheim, 12th century Blidelssheim, 1300 Blidolfishain). Between the 5th and 7th centuries a Franconian-Alemannic row graveyard was laid out on the northern outskirts. During excavations in 1969 and 1989/90, over 250 graves were found.

Pleidelsheim was first mentioned in the Lorsch Codex in 794 as Blidolvesheim on the occasion of a donation to the Lorsch Abbey . The place changed hands several times: in 972 to the Speyer monastery , at the beginning of the 12th century to the Hirsau monastery , 1245 to the Backnang monastery and finally in 1455 to Württemberg . In the 12th century the place belonged to the sphere of influence of the Hohenstaufen .

Many historical buildings date from the town's heyday in the 16th and 17th centuries. There is evidence of a field chapel dedicated to Saint Anne from 1587 . During the Palatine War of Succession , the French headquarters were in Pleidelsheim in July 1693.

Pleidelsheim belonged as part of Altwürttembergs to the office or (since the 18th century) Oberamt Marbach since 1463 . This did not change with the implementation of the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg, founded in 1806 .

Until the beginning of the 20th century, Pleidelsheim was dominated exclusively by agriculture. In 1960 there were 171 agricultural and forestry holdings, but in 1974 there were only 71. Today there are 15 agricultural holdings with an area of at least 2 ha. Mainly grain was grown, but also tobacco . Tobacco cultivation, which began in 1709, came to a standstill in 1991. Maize was grown from 1724 and a lot of asparagus has been grown in Pleidelsheim since 1929 . The introduction of the three-field economy made it possible to improve agricultural production. Today there are eleven emigrant farms.

During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , Pleidelsheim came from the Marbach district to the Ludwigsburg district in 1938. In 1945 the place became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

religion

Since the Reformation was introduced in the 16th century, Pleidelsheim has been predominantly Protestant (Mauritius church from the 12th century). The Protestant community belongs to the Marbach parish of the Evangelical Regional Church . Only with the expellees at the end of the Second World War did Catholics return to the town. Therefore, in 1955, the Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul was built. The Catholic community is part of the Ludwigsburg deanery . There is also an Evangelical Methodist church community. With the Fatih Mosque there is also a Muslim place of worship.

Currently (as of December 31, 2015), 34.2% of the population are Protestant, 26.1% Catholic, 39.7% belonged to another or no denomination. The share of the last group in the population increased by 1.5% in 2015.

A single double hook will appear later in the community seal. In 1937, the municipality "doubled" its coat of arms, which is how today's coat of arms was created.

The municipal flag is red and white and was awarded on September 13, 1954. Colors were deliberately chosen that differed from those of the municipal coat of arms in order to distinguish the flag from the national flag .
