The Neckar Canal Pleidelsheim is the actual main fairway of the Neckar , which, viewed in the direction of flow, separates from the old Neckar arm and bends to the right. The weir and the Beihingen flood seal are also located at this point. The main canal then runs under several bridges (including the A 81 motorway bridge ) and again divides into a branch in Pleidelsheim . The main fairway now runs in the middle for a short time after the branch of the Neckar has separated to the right in the direction of flow. After the Pleidelsheim lock, the old arm of the Neckar (here called the defensive arm) and the main canal reunite, shortly afterwards to take up the right branch again, which still drives the Pleidelsheim hydropower plant here . The canal was originally used in combination with the Beihingen weir to generate electricity. These construction works were carried out from 1912 to 1914. The power plant still exists today.
