history
Remnants of a manor and a road indicate that the municipality was already inhabited in Roman times. The present-day settlement, whose name means "home of Saro", was first mentioned in 792 AD in a donation book of the Lorsch monastery as Saraesheim . Ownership of the place changed several times, around 1100 the place belonged to the Hirsau Monastery , which is still indicated by the spheres in the local coat of arms.

In the Middle Ages the Counts of Vaihingen held the high authority, after their extinction from 1360 the Counts of Württemberg ; the local rule was exercised by their feudal people, the lords of Sachsenheim . Other noble families such as the Lords of Helmstatt or the Landschad von Steinach as well as monasteries had properties in the village. In 1436, a tenth of the village submitted to Württemberg rule. After those von Sachsenheim died out and further possessions were acquired, the village belonged completely to Württemberg from 1589 and was initially subordinate to the Grüningen office , then to the Großsachsenheim office.
The medieval village was in the triangle between Metter and Aischbach, which flow together a little further east, and was surrounded by a wooden fence. Three gates, the Mühltor (towards the Metter), the Obere or Vaihinger Tor and the Gröninger Tor or Schaftor at the southern end of Schlossstrasse, led to the outside.
In the Thirty Years War , Sersheim was almost completely depopulated; of 800 inhabitants only 50 remained. Only a century later the old population size was reached again. During the reorganization of the Württemberg administration in the course of the upheavals that led to the establishment of the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 , the village first came to the Oberamt Bietigheim in 1807 and a short time later in 1808 to the Oberamt Vaihingen .
In 1853, with the construction of the Western Railway, the industrial age came to Sersheim and brought the residents new opportunities to earn a living by working in factories located outside of the city. Sersheim itself remained mainly a residential community. The Sersheim train station was outside on the road to Kleinglattbach. Already in 1863 it was renamed Vaihingen-Sersheim.
In 1905, Sersheim was given a nearby breakpoint. It was built on the slope a little south of the town center; Since then, the settlement's focus has shifted somewhat due to the creation of new residential areas around the train station.
In the First World War fell 49 Sersheimer, in World War II 119. After the war expellees made up about a quarter of the population.
During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , Sersheim came to the district of Vaihingen in 1938 .
After the Second World War, the place became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was merged into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. In the post-war period, the place enlarged mainly to the south. The residential areas Auf dem Kies (1950), Hochhalter (1950/60), western Oberriexinger Straße (1966/70, 1973), Waldeck (1973/76) and Alter Sportplatz (from 1976) were built on both sides of the Aischbach and north of the railway system . In the northern part of Sersheim it was the residential areas Im Sommerrain (1965/1968) and Ob der Mühle (1966/70). The western industrial park emerged in the early 1950s.
When the district reform in Baden-Württemberg took place in 1973 , the place was incorporated into the Ludwigsburg district. When the community reform was taking place at the same time, the community's independence was threatened by a possible incorporation into Vaihingen an der Enz . In order to avoid this fate, Sersheim tried to incorporate the somewhat smaller neighboring town of Oberriexingen. These efforts failed, but the independence remained within the framework of an administrative community with Vaihingen. From 1970 to 1990 the population increased by a good third.
Sersheim has had a partnership with the Italian municipality of Canale since 1984 . In 1989 the community established a wetland biotope in the Valle delle Rocche there as a gift, for which Sersheim was awarded the flag of honor of the Council of Europe .

badges and flags
The Sersheim coat of arms shows a red buffalo horn with grind in gold, three (1: 2) red balls between the horns. The buffalo horn indicates the lords of Sachsenheim, who ruled the town until 1561. The meaning of the three balls is not certain; possibly they point - as an attribute of St. Nicholas to the Hirsau monastery , which had been wealthy in Sersheim since the early 12th century. The date of origin of the coat of arms is unclear, it has probably been used at least since the early 19th century. The current form of the coat of arms was determined by a resolution of the municipal council on December 2, 1955.
On October 9, 1980, the municipality was awarded a red-yellow flag by the Ludwigsburg district office.

Culture, sights, tourism
Buildings
The old town center is bounded by Vaihinger Straße, Sedanstraße and Metterweg and is grouped around Schlossstraße, where the most important buildings are located. The name of the street is reminiscent of the Untere Schlössle , which was built from 1479, but after a checkered history only remains of the wall remain. In 1988 and 1992 the new town hall and the community center were built on the castle grounds.
The Protestant parish church in Schlossstrasse is one of the other historical buildings that have shaped the area. Its origins go back to the 11th century when parts of the tower still come from. In 1753 the nave was rebuilt and significantly enlarged.
The Obere Schlössle , built in 1568, is located in Backgasse. The Widdumhof is a large historical agricultural property that served the local pastor from the 16th to the 18th century and was still granted special rights afterwards.

Regular events
Every second year (in uneven years) at the end of June, the community and associations organize the Luggeles-Feschd together , the name of which refers to the nickname of the Sersheimers (Luggele = chick). This is said to have originated from the cramped location of the place, in which the houses “nestled like chicks around the hen” (the church). Another explanation of the nickname is that in the Sersheim dialect the word "here" "hear" is spoken, which means "chicken" in other areas. When the people of Sersheim said in the church: "Lord, send me hear", that is, "Lord, we are here", non-residents understood: "Lord, we are chickens". And it's a short walk from the chickens to the luggele .
Among the regular events also includes the local club for Tractorpulling aligned Trecker Treck .
