history

The area of the district of Vaihingen belonged to Württemberg as well as to some imperial knighthoods as early as 1800 . That is why there was the Oberamt Vaihingen even before 1800 . The Oberämter Güglingen and Sachsenheim , the monastery office Maulbronn and the staff office Derdingen had further shares . After 1806 there was a temporary Maulbronn district with the offices of Vaihingen and Maulbronn. The Güglingen office was part of the Heilbronn district at the time, but it was merged with the Brackenheim office as early as 1808. In 1810 the offices of Maulbronn, Vaihingen and Brackenheim belonged to the bailiffs on the Enz and the lower Neckar, from 1818 to the Neckar district , which was dissolved in 1924. In 1934 the head offices were renamed to districts and in 1938 the districts of Maulbronn and Brackenheim were dissolved. The communities of the Maulbronn district and some communities in the Brackenheim district were assigned to the current district of Vaihingen, which also gave some communities to the Ludwigsburg and Leonberg districts .

After the formation of the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952, the district of Vaihingen belonged to the administrative district of North Württemberg .

With effect from January 1, 1973, the district of Vaihingen was dissolved. The western part was assigned to the newly formed Enzkreis , the eastern part and with it the district town of Vaihingen an der Enz to the enlarged district of Ludwigsburg , which became the legal successor to the district of Vaihingen. A community ( Oberderdingen ) came to the district of Karlsruhe .

The coat of arms was awarded to the district of Vaihingen on April 22, 1970 by the Ministry of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg .

The lion comes from the coat of arms of the district town of Vaihingen, the chess bar that of the city of Maulbronn, and the mill wheel is taken from the coat of arms of the city of Mühlacker.

Communities

From 1938 onwards there were initially 42 municipalities in the district of Vaihingen, of which 5 were towns.

On March 7, 1968, the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg set the course for a community reform . With the law to strengthen the administrative power of smaller municipalities , it was possible for smaller municipalities to voluntarily unite to form larger municipalities. The beginning in the district of Vaihingen was made on January 1st, 1970 by the community of Schmie, which was incorporated into the town of Maulbronn . In the period that followed, the number of communities steadily decreased until the district of Vaihingen was finally dissolved on January 1, 1973.

The largest municipality in the district was the city of Mühlacker . The smallest community was Spielberg.

In the table, the municipalities of the Vaihingen district are before the municipal reform. The population figures refer to the census results in 1961 and 1970.
