The village of Gündelbach in the Mettertal has been a district of the large district town of Vaihingen an der Enz in the Ludwigsburg district (Baden-Württemberg) since the municipal reform .

Gündelbach is just seven kilometers north of the core town of Vaihingen at 246  m above sea level. NN at the confluence of the eponymous Gündelbach in the Metter flowing eastwards here . About 1.7 km northeast of the village is the domain of Steinbachhof am Steinbach , which is part of the municipal boundary, and upstream the next larger Metter tributary.

Gündelbach is 3.1 km east of Schützingen , a village that today belongs to Illingen in the Enzkreis , and 3.6 km west of Horrheim . 2.7 km south-southeast of Gündelbach lies beyond 392  m above sea level. NN high Eselsberg in the short neighboring valley of the Brünnlesbach zur Enz is Ensingen, which also belongs to Vaihingen . 3.7 km north-northwest of the place is beyond the 385  m above sea level. NN high Hamberg the village of Häfnerhaslach am Kirbach , which belongs to Sachsenheim .

Around 1100 the place was called Gindratbach , 1241 Ginderandesbach . In the first half of the 12th century Hirsau Monastery was given property here. 1241 of the precious free donated Belrein of Eselsberg the monastery Maulbronn various goods and Gülten in Gündelbach addition to a hearing and will have the same back as interest-bearing annually Leibl marriages. In 1350, Count Konrad von Vaihingen and his son Johann gave the Rechentshofen monastery for the salvation of their souls and that of their wife and mother Elisabeth von Schlüsselberg from their property in the boundaries of their two villages Hohenhaslach and Niederhaslach 13½ quarters of wine from an acre vineyard belonging to the "Spi [ e] gel ”and“ on the Hungerberg ”plus an annual valid from four acres of meadows.

In 1355, Count Konrad von Vaihingen and his son Heinrich sold their forest near Gündelbach, known as Schreckstein , to Maulbronn Monastery .

In 1404 the local nobleman Albrecht, called Abian, from Horrheim sold his mill between Schützingen and Gündelbach to the Maulbronn monastery with the associated goods and rights.

During the War of the Bavarian Succession , Gündelbach was burned down in 1504 by the troops of Duke Ulrich von Württemberg .

In the Middle Ages, the patronage rights to the Laurentius Church were held by the Counts of Vaihingen, then the Counts of Württemberg, who had given it as a fief to the Lords of Nippenburg from 1443 to 1587 . Church law, the church belonged to the Reformation to the country chapter Vaihingen in Archidiakonat Trinity of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Speyer . The tower choir of the local church dates from the 1st half of the 15th century, its nave was added in 1618.

After the abolition of the Maulbronn monastery, the village was assigned to the Württemberg monastery office , from 1806 Oberamt Maulbronn . In 1938 it came to the district of Vaihingen . On March 1, 1972, Gündelbach was incorporated into Vaihingen an der Enz.
