geography

history

Ensingen belonged to the Lords of Eselsberg in the 13th century , after their extinction around 1253 it came to the Counts of Vaihingen and from them to the House of Württemberg at the end of the 14th century . In 1972 Ensingen was incorporated into Vaihingen.

The " Castrum Elisperch " north of Ensingen, mostly known today as Eselsburg , was first mentioned in a document on April 23, 1188 in a contract between Emperor Frederick I and King Alfonso VIII as a Hohenstaufen estate. After that the castle became the seat of the noble lords of Eselsberg . Your most famous lord of the castle was " Belreinus de Eselsberch ", the founder of the Rechentshofen monastery southeast of Hohenhaslach . Since Belrein had no male heir, the Eselsburg fell through his daughter Agnes to Count Konrad II of Vaihingen, who was married to her .

On February 1, 1972 Ensingen was incorporated into the city of Vaihingen an der Enz.

Buildings

The Eselsburg Tower on the 392 meter high Eselsberg north of Ensingen was built in 1925 by the Ensingen branch of the Swabian Alb Association on the castle stables of Eselsberg Castle. The wooden tower has a height of 18.2 meters. From its viewing platform you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Schlossberg near Karlsruhe-Durlach in the west, over the northern Black Forest (Dobel, Hohloh, Hornisgrinde) to the Swabian Alb - in front of it the Solitude and the Stuttgart TV tower - to the Swabian Forest and the Löwenstein Mountains. In the north, the neighboring ridge of the Baiselsberg and Wachtkopf limits the horizon.

Today's Protestant St. Veith Church was built around 1200, first mentioned in a document in 1262 and "according to the inscription above the southern entrance ( Anno dom. 1468 renovata est hec structura sub Friderico de Nippenburg pastore hujus ecclesie )" in 1468 Pastor Friedrich von Nippenburg renewed.

societies

The local group Ensingen of the Swabian Alb Association was awarded the Eichendorff plaque in 2001.
