Longuyon is a French commune with 5320 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Briey and was the capital of the canton of Longuyon until 2015 and has since been part of the canton of Mont-Saint-Martin .

geography

The small town of Longuyon is located in the northwest of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department on the border with the Meuse department , near the border triangle France-Belgium-Luxembourg. In Longuyon the Crusnes flows into the Chiers , a tributary of the Meuse .

Attractions

The distinctive buildings in Longuyon include the collegiate church of St. Agatha from the 13th century, the parish church of the Blessed Virgin, built in 1906, and the church of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours in the Noërs district to the southwest of the core town .

Town twinning

Longuyon has had partnerships since 1971 with the communities of Schmitshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate , Limana in the Italian Veneto (Italy) and Walferdingen in Luxembourg . Further partnerships exist with Żary in Poland , since 1999 with Tizi Rached in Algeria and since 1980 with Pirna in Saxony , which was officially renewed on June 20, 1998 after the fall of the Wall in 1989.
