The canton of Mont-Saint-Martin is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Briey , in the Département of Meurthe-et-Moselle and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Mont-Saint-Martin .
The canton is located in the northwest of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department.
history
The canton was created on August 2, 1973 by splitting off from the canton Longwy . Until 2015, eight municipalities belonged to the canton of Mont-Saint-Martin. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 32 in 2015. Four of the previous eight communes moved to the canton of Longwy . In addition to the remaining 4 communes, the communes of the previous cantons Longuyon (23 communes), Villerupt (4 communes) and Audun-le-Roman (1 commune) were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the eight municipalities of Chenières , Cosnes-et-Romain , Cutry , Gorcy , Lexy , Mont-Saint-Martin (main town), Réhon and Ville-Houdlémont belonged to the canton of Mont-Saint-Martin . Its layout corresponded to an area of 59.45 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5432.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Serge De Carli (PCF) / Monique Poplineau (DVG) won against Jonathan Lambinet / Déborah Szczepanski (both FN ) with a share of 58.03% of the vote (turnout: 41.50%).
